Treat your fork like a prescription and your plate the front line of care as produce, protein, and mindset turn everyday eating into real medicine. Dr. Andrew Fix sits down with Tamar Samuels, registered dietitian and co-founder of Culina Health, to examine why nutritional therapy often fails in practice despite being so logical on paper. If most people already know the basics—eat more plants, cut the processed stuff—why doesn’t that knowledge automatically lead to action?

Tamar lays out the real barriers: limited access to guidance, confusing nutrition narratives, and perfection-based rules that collapse under stress. Prevention and longevity don’t require an overhaul, they require patterns you can live with.

Tamar’s approach is refreshingly practical. Build meals around produce and protein. Choose progress over precision. Bring in support before willpower burns out. Food as medicine doesn’t have to feel clinical, it can be familiar, forgiving, and built one ordinary meal at a time.

Quotes

“Most people don’t think about a dietician as part of that general team. And yet we eat all day long. And the food that we eat really informs all of these other conditions that we see our doctors regularly for.” (08:14 | Tamar Samuels)

There’s a huge gap here in why people aren’t seeing registered dietitians. And there’s a lot of reasons behind it, mostly because people don’t even know what dietitians are or many dietitians are cost prohibitive.” (08:32 | Tamar Samuels)

“The problem isn’t the lack of access to nutrition information. It’s too much access to nutrition information.” (18:25 | Tamar Samuels)

“It doesn’t have to be perfect. We’re not aiming for perfection. You’re never going to hit your goals every single time, every day, right? It’s just about paying attention. You’re much more likely to get there if you pay attention and monitor and track and get this community support than if you wouldn’t have done that.” (35:10 | Tamar Samuels)

“It’s okay to emotionally eat. The problem is when we rely exclusively on emotionally eating as our major or as our main tool to manage stress and to, you know, help manage a variety of different emotions.” (41:32 | Tamar Samuels)

Billionaires are investing in longevity science, and it could change how the rest of us live, age, and access healthcare.

In this episode, Dr. Andrew Fix talks with Dr. David Dror, a health economist and author of “Investors in Longevity,” about the future of aging and why massive private investment is flowing into the science of longer, healthier lives. What happens when aging becomes a market opportunity? And who benefits when medicine moves toward personalization and prevention instead of standardized care?

Dr. Dror shares insights from decades of global work in health systems and social protection. He explains why longevity is more than living longer. Longevity is about preserving physical and cognitive function as we age. From cellular reprogramming to AI-driven drug discovery, the conversation highlights advances that could push the boundaries of what we expect from medicine.

But access isn’t equal, and that matters. Dr. Dror offers a clear call to action: get informed. As science and capital converge, individuals who understand the landscape will be in a better position to advocate for their health and shape their future.

Quotes

“We have all grown up and lived for years with the notion that public money creates public health… When this now goes away… does that mean we’re going to have private health?” (07:06 | Dr. David Dror)

“We are not yet at the stage where personalized medicine is really the domain of the public at large in any country that I know of… But now we’re talking about a different game altogether based on the individualized picture in terms of your cell structure.” (25:30 | Dr. David Dror)

“Aging needs a rebrand. Aging isn’t a downhill side. Aging is actually an upgrade waiting for better PR. And we can flip the script. Longer lives mean more time for growth.” (34:59 | Dr. David Dror)

“If people will live to 100, they will probably work to 80 or 85… So on the three very important aspects of work, welfare, and wealth, longevity has a huge set of impacts.” (36:40 | Dr. David Dror)

Key Takeaways:

• Approach your goals by working backwards. Ask yourself what do you want to accomplish and what steps do you need to take to achieve that?

• Aging is an inevitable part of life, but we can implement habits into our daily routines that can help make this process easier on us.

• Understand your internal motivations and use them to help motivate you every day to achieve your goals.

How can we maximize not only our life span but our health span? And what can you do now to set yourself up to set yourself up for a life of longevity and health? Those are questions that came to mind when host Dr. Andrew Fix was reading Peter Attia’s latest book, Outlive: The Science of Art and Longevity. In today’s episode, Dr. Andrew explores the phrase “begin with the end in mind,” and what that means for him and his approach to physical therapy.

Unfortunately, aging is an inevitable part of life. And while we cannot avoid it, there are many things we can do to make the process easier on our bodies. So when we approach our health-related goals, it is best to start with an understanding of what the desired outcome is that we are looking for. Dr. Andrew suggests that listeners ask themselves what kinds of things they want to be doing at a certain point in their life. Do you still want to be a runner in your 50’s and 60’s? If that is your goal, then what are you doing now that will help you progress and maintain your body’s physical capacity to get there?

By figuring out our internal motivations, we are more likely to find things that motivate us day in and day out. And by approaching our goals with the end goal in mind, we can begin to implement habits that can help put us on the right track to living a healthy and full life.

Quotes

• “Where do you want to be? What is the desired outcome that you are looking for and how can you devise a plan of action for how you’re going to get there?” (02:12-02:23 | Dr. Andrew)

• “What is the mental visualization of what you have in mind? That’s the first step.” (03:37-03:43 | Dr. Andrew)

• “Maybe there’s a very deeply instilled internal motivation of why that person wants to be able to do that thing. And that’s great. We need to know that information in order to help hold that client accountable in the office.” (06:03-06:18 | Dr. Andrew)

• “When you’re setting goals for yourself, you need something that’s going to motivate you day in and day out and hold you accountable to do the smaller steps that are going to help you reach that outcome. Because it’s not just going to happen just because you wrote it down on a piece of paper.” (06:20-06:39 | Dr. Andrew)

• Unfortunately, starting at a relatively young age, like in our thirties, our physical fitness and health begins to decline as we age. We start to lose muscle mass, we lose aerobic capacity, unless you are doing significant training in your early years to try and progress and maintain these things to fight off the effects that aging and time has on all of our bodies.” (08:26-08:59 | Dr. Andrew)
