Most people try to be more present by forcing focus when the real leverage comes from how you transition between moments rather than what you do inside them.

In this episode, Dr. Andrew Fix reframes presence as a skill built through transitions rather than effort alone. When work spills into home or one conversation runs straight into the next, stress builds quietly and attention thins out. The issue is rarely motivation. It is the absence of buffer time that allows the mind to reset before moving forward.

Dr. Fix makes the case for protecting small pauses that most people rush past. A minute in the car before walking inside. A breath before responding instead of reacting. A short buffer between meetings that creates space to listen rather than solve. These moments close one chapter before the next begins. What changes when you stop carrying mental residue from task to task? How might your relationships shift if you gave presence priority over speed? The message is simple and grounded. Transitions deserve intention because they shape how you show up everywhere else.

Quotes

“What I want to encourage you guys to do is to not take for granted how powerful even just a small but really intentional period of time can be to transition from one activity to the next.” (03:28 | Dr. Andrew Fix)

“People need you to listen to them. People need you to hear what they’re saying and listen, not just to respond, but listen to hear them and listen to understand what they’re trying to say.” (05:20 | Dr. Andrew Fix)

“Just pause for a beat before you respond to them. Just pause, that could be one breath, that could be two breaths.” (05:39 | Dr. Andrew Fix)

“We need to protect that transition time. Because although it is short, it is extremely valuable. It is worth its weight in gold.” (08:00 | Dr. Andrew Fix)

“Come along with me on this practice journey and take just 30 to 60 seconds when you go from one activity to the next.” (09:04 | Dr. Andrew Fix)

“These are things that can propel me, give me the energy and the vision to take care of my family. To be there for them, to make a profound difference in their lives. I’m not doing it for me. I’m doing it for them,” shares Matt Moriarity, owner of the Matthew Moriarty Agency at Farmers Insurance and Financial Services. Today, Matt shares his tips for living a life of excellence.

Matt believes strongly in leading by example, especially when it comes to his children. He wakes up daily at 4 am, not because he has to, but because this lifestyle allows him more time with his kids. Matt explains that the way to become a high performer is to figure out what drives you, commit to a plan of action that will help you achieve your goals, and then stick to that plan regardless of how you feel.

Wellness is a decision that you have to make for yourself and stick to. And if you focus on your why and build up the mental fortitude to stick with your plan, you too can live a life of excellence.

Quotes

• “The most important thing is to lead by example, more than showing them the way. Success leaves clues in any area.” (30:24-30:32 | Matt)

• “These are things that can propel me, give me the energy, give me the vision to take care of my family, right? To be there for them, to make a profound difference in their lives. I’m not doing it for me. I’m doing it for them.” (33:17-33:31 | Matt)

• “The biggest reason people fail is because over and over they make promises that they don’t keep to themselves.” (34:16-34:20 | Matt)

“I think the people that view their job as a job, and it’s just something that they have to do. And they go into their day with a mindset of, “I have to do this,” as opposed to “I get to do this,” explains host Dr. Andrew. Dr. Andrew understands that not everyone loves their job the way he loves his. With this in mind, he urges listeners to find a daily passion that motivates them and brings them joy.

When you consistently do something you’re passionate about, you have a positive mindset that carries into other areas of your life. However, it’s common that as we get older and work consumes most of our time, we lose the hobbies that fuel us and give us meaning. It may be challenging, but Dr. Andrew promises it’s worth finding the thing that gets us out of bed in the morning and gives us the motivation to be our best selves.

Even if it seems unlikely, everybody is passionate about something. Learn more about Dr. Andrew’s busy but fulfilling day, having the capacity to turn a hobby into a financial endeavor, and incorporating your passions into your daily life.

Quotes

• “As people become adults, get into the workplace, grow, age, and move through their life, they lose a lot of the activities and the hobbies that fuel their passion and their enjoyment in life.” (2:15-2:35 | Dr. Andrew)

• “I know that it’s not a reality that every single person out there has something that they are really passionate about, that they get to do on a day-in and day-out basis.” (6:10-6:20 | Dr. Andrew)

• “I think everybody has the capacity or the ability to turn something into a financial endeavor if they want to.” (8:10-8:20 | Dr. Andrew)

• “I think the people that view their job as a job, and it’s just something that they have to do. They go into their day with a mindset of, “I have to do this,” as opposed to “I get to do this.” (10:16-10:34 | Dr. Andrew)

• “Find something that you’re passionate about, that you feel like you get to do instead of having to do, and find a way to work that into your life.” (12:40-12:49 | Dr. Andrew)

“Starting to do little things for ourselves and realizing how much happier we were outside of the office snowballed into us wanting to do more for ourselves,” explains Reana Kaminsky, Co-owner of the getREAL Shop. Reana and her sister Alex first came to Physio Room for recovery help after a bike run event and now are close friends of the group. Reflecting on their weight loss journeys, the Kaminsky sisters share their passion for fitness and what led them to start their business.

Life-long athletes, Reana and Alex, gained considerable weight once they started desk jobs. During covid, they decided to get back into shape and regain healthy habits. After committing to their fitness and nutrition, they shared their journeys via Youtube, inspiring others with their vulnerability. By accepting themselves and starting their own online store, the Kaminsky sisters allowed their positive changes to make everything else fall into place.

No matter what your profession is, you must take care of yourself. Learn more about the Kaminsky sisters’ relatable experience with weight gain, the benefits of group fitness, and why you should always be real.
