Founder and Race Director, The Stoke Fine Racing Events

About Scott Schraeder

Scott Schrader is a proud husband and father who has been running and racing for twenty years, with wins at every distance from the 5K to the 50K. He runs around 4,500 miles and 900,000 feet of vert a year. He is a combat veteran of the 10th Mountain Division with two deployments, and serves as CMO of CottageCare.

He is the founder and race director of The Stoke Fine Racing Events, which puts on everything from top quality local 5Ks to legendary Front Range trail ultras. In August he directed the first Roxborough Ultras, the first race of any kind permitted inside Roxborough State Park in more than a decade.

Twenty years of racing everything from 5Ks to ultras taught me that the distance is not what makes a race good. So we build every event the same way, and a local 5K gets the same attention as a fifty miler. The person finishing a 50K gets the same finish line as the person finishing a hundred. Too many events treat the shorter distances like a warm up act and I think that is backwards.

The other half is access. Getting a race permitted on ground people love takes years of relationships with land managers, and keeping it means leaving the place better than you found it. After Roxborough I walked the course the next day and did not find a single piece of trash. That is what makes the next one possible.
