Bike Fit – PhysioFit

You’re not an alogrithm –
Your bike fit shouldn’t be either!

Every bike fit involves an individualized movement examination by a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist tailored to each rider. Modifications to your bike and foot-pedal interface will be matched to your body and how you function as a rider.

Part 1: Fitting Goals and Expectations

We listen to your riding goals, prior or current injuries, and riding experience necessary to meet your expectations.

Part 2: What are YOUR movement patterns like?

Off-bike movement patterns are typically mirrored during pedaling dynamics. Pelvic, upper and lower body movement patterns that are specific to cycling are assessed. Quality and quantity of movement with specific attention to the level of side to side asymmetries are highlighted.

Part 3: Positioning, Bike Modifications and Pedaling Dynamics

Most often, the changes to the bike are significantly less drastic after riders get objective feedback about how to improve pedaling dynamics in seated and standing positions. This goes for all levels of riders, especially riders that have received multiple fits that have overlooked the functional component of cycling.

We provide you with objective feedback and insight to your movement patterns – keys to comfort and performance.

Part 4: Outcomes

Individualized plan including rider positioning instruction, and home exercise program are tenants of our bike fit philosophy at Physio Room. We maintain open communication and rider support as a partner throughout the journey towards your goals.

What makes a PhysioFit Different?

The traditional approach to bike fitting doesn’t account for the most important aspect of the fit – the rider as an individual. We don’t just plug you into an algorithm or the position where “most” people would be comfortable. Cycling is a sport of sustainability, so we account for the intersection of your on and off the bike movement patterns, cycling position awareness and mechanical bike changes to find your ideal position.

As a specialized physical therapist for cyclists, one of the greatest impacts we can have is helping people understand the complexity of the musculoskeletal system and how that impacts their specific movement patterns when riding. We want you riding pain free and efficiently for the long term, not just with short term goals in mind. If you need different parts, we have partnered with awesome local bike shops but we focus on getting you moving well first and foremost.

Our approach considers the needs and physical demands of riding in all positions, not just the seated one. As passionate riders and racers, we understand the various theories and approaches to bike fitting, personally refining what is actually helpful during an event

Posture and Performance

There are variables with cycling that other sports do not have, so mitigating rider positioning and bike set up variables will help with quicker rehab process, while also aiding performance. Every team member at Physio Room is passionate about cycling, but we also realize the value of getting outside our own perception and self limiting ability to “fit” ourselves, instead relying on another team member to get us dialed. So yes, every rider, regardless of ability or riding style, will benefit from a PhysioFit.

If people don’t move or function well off the bike, it is highly unlikely they will move well while riding, which inevitably leads to pain and a compromised riding experience. Cycling comfort and performance require three distinct components – s. Each is essential for cycling comfort, performance and longevity and typical bike fits only address one of these components. Addressing the rider component of a bike fit is crucial to preventing pain and optimizing performance.

Every human has the potential to move and function more efficiently. We work to optimize every client’s movement patterns to reduce pain and we tailor our treatments to each person’s specific goals.

A bike fit at Physio Room is no different.
